Is the Air Head suitable for liveaboards and sailing vessels?

Why Do Our Customers Love Air Head?

I purchased an Airhead for my OutIsland 28 sailboat in 2004. I now have a Prairie 29 trawler and need to install an Airhead, the one on the sailboat worked so well that I want to install it on my trawler. I am a full-time liveaboard. I hate to pump out my holding tank…

We have had an Airhead Composting Toilet on our sailboat for over 2 years now, and I can say with much emphasis that we still consider it in the top three items we’ve put on the boat for ease of comfort, simplicity, reliability, and complying with waste laws, which makes it a huge plus for not ever worrying about ANY destination we travel to. Having just recently had to completely re-build a family member’s toilet system (not an Airhead), I can once again say: “I never ever want to be without an Airhead on a boat that I live on!”

Of all the things that I have purchased for my boat over the years, I think the Airhead has been one of the most worthwhile things.

FAQ

Is the Air Head suitable for liveaboards and sailing vessels?

Absolutely! Air Head Composting Toilets are a game-changer for liveaboards and sailors, offering a practical, eco-friendly solution that complies with waste water regulations.

Yes! The installation is designed to be straightforward, allowing for a seamless DIY setup in your vessel.

A big question we get is where to mount the vent onboard? The simplest solution, depending on your boat, is to vent into either the anchor locker, or into a aft cockpit locker. This way you ensure no water will be getting in via the vent outlet.

With a capacity of approximately 80 uses, the frequency of emptying depends on the number of people aboard. The design minimizes maintenance needs, ideal for long term cruising.

While at sea, follow international maritime regulations for waste disposal. In port, use designated facilities for compost or solid waste, ensuring you adhere to local guidelines.

Its compact design is perfect for fitting into the tight spaces, providing a comfortable and efficient toilet solution without compromising on living space.

Choosing an Air Head Composting Toilet simplifies boat maintenance by eliminating complex fresh and salt water systems and the risk of endless leaks and blockages. With no need for a thru-hull, it reduces the boat’s vulnerability to water ingress. Additionally, the absence of a holding tank means no pump-outs and freedom from discharge restrictions, enhancing convenience and compliance with marine regulations.

Routine maintenance is minimal and straightforward, involving regular emptying, cleaning with vinegar and water, and ensuring the vent system is clear for optimal operation.

The big benefit for boaters is that they don’t need to install a thru-hull for salt water, or need to use a fresh water system. So it can greatly reduce the amount of water that is used, while minimizing the amount of holes in the boat – which is always a nice feeling!

Designed with marine-grade materials, the Air Head is resistant to corrosion and damage from saltwater exposure, ensuring durability and longevity.
